UPDATE

It's been over two years since i've posted on this thing. So i guess i'll just fill you all in on what's been happening.

- Finished film school.
- Got a job working for an AV company.
- Moved into the city with Emily.
- Almost finished work on my first feature film (and while it has been a year and a half, it should be done by december).
- Shot a series of tour videos and sketches for the latest Drugs tour.

Wow. When you try and think about what you've done with the last two years of your life, it really makes you feel like you haven't done too much at all. Something annoyingly missing from that list is: FINISHED MY SECOND FEATURE SCREENPLAY.

Have to totally get off my arse and figure out what my next project is gonna be. As for now, i'm fishing around for more music video projects.

I might update this thing more regularly now. I don't hate it as much as i used to.

EDIT: EVERY POST AFTER THIS POINT IS NOW SET TO PRIVATE! I WILL CONTINUE TO POST, IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO READ PLEASE ADD ME AND I WILL ADD YOU BACK!

UPDATE: saw V for Vendetta. Hung with Emily heaps. Saw Ross Noble at the Enmore. Finished my editing project after hours of struggling with livetype late into the night and being thrown out of the suite by security. Seeing V again tonight. Bored. Hate updating this thing. Might quit soon.

he only comes out when i drink my gin

This week consisted of going to school a lot and making sure all my projects are getting wrapped up on time. Editing, and Production Schedule. Not much work needs to be done for my Wednesday class. I saw a few movies, here's the low down:
When A Stranger Calls (remake)... Complete and utter shit.
The Weatherman... Good film, good performance.
One Missed Call... A Miike film i didn't like so much.
I still haven't seen Goodnight & Goodluck, or Zathura so that's planned for this week. Oh, and V for Vendetta came out, so that too. I am so bored. Sundays are the worst. This entry is being aborted... now.

can't you hear those cavalry drums hijacking your equilibrium?

On friday i got all glam'd up (LIE) and went to the theatre with Emily (who looked amazing!) and saw Suessical, the show that Phil, and Troy, and Ben are in. I had big time doubts about the show, but i quite enjoyed it. It was just cute and fun and silly. You know who else is cute and fun and silly... nevermind, i'm sure everyone is sick of me talking about her by now. Afterwards i met up with Gav, who was being held hostage by Webb, Rohan and Gangsta Lee, in one of the most daring drunken sieges yet. So, yes, I went to the Catholic. We talked crap for a few hours and had some beer, and then we all left rather early and drove around greater macarthur looking for food. In the morning, i got up and watched a totally amazing Korean film called Memoirs of Murder. Then i went online and found out Spike Lee's new film had an advanced screening on and arranged to go see it with Gav. I then went inside and watched numerous episodes of John Safran's Music Jamboree. So, i saw the late session of Inside Man, and it's the first completely mainstream studio picture by Spike Lee and probably his best in years. It's a totally amazing heist film, with a completely odd and quirky plot and characters. The music and style is at times a throwback to the heist films of the 70's, a la The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. It's as usual, a platform for Spike to explore race and class issues, but this time not at the expense of a kickass heist film. The only REAL heist film i've seen in years. When i got home i talked to a certain someone on my mobile 'til 2 in the morning, then i went to sleepies.

Over the past week or so i've spent a lot of time with Emily, practiced my Driver Knowledge Test, purchased a vehicle, and soon i will book my L's test. Also, i'm actually kind of bothering to look for a job soon. I think i will coincide the getting of my license with the finding of a job, and then i'll decide if i really wanna be a full time student next year. Also, the oscars are on tonight, so expect me to bitch about the results afterward. Cya then.

just because you feel it doesnt mean it's there

What's the overall consensus on giving up on people? Is that a bad thing to do? I just feel like all i ever try to do is help some people (which is very difficult because it is in no way in my nature) and i just pretty much get hated in the end. On a lighter note, Me and the guys went out to see Hostel but before we went to see the movie, i went into JB HIFI and thought i'd look for that Michel Gondry Collection. I figured if it had a cheap price tag i might get lucky. Then when i saw the price tag said 36 dollars, i was sure it wouldn't go through the scanner and i'd get it for 15 like a few days earlier with the Spike Jonze one. Sure enough, it didn't go through and the funky girl at the counter who remembered me from pretty much being there all week let me have it for 15. Didn't even ask the manager, just said "Don't tell anyone". So i came here and posted the story on LJ. So now i have the entire set, Cunningham, Jonze and Gondry for about 60 dollars all up, when rrp it should have cost about $150. So, Hostel. Okay, after hearing the bad reviews i was worried. Then after seeing the trailer, more worried. But yesterday i saw the best horror film i have seen come out of the united states of america in many many many many years. The stock looks wonderful. The framing is something else. The lighting is completely brilliantly atmospheric. The story structure is surprising in so many ways. The music is beyond tense. The acting is mostly good (with some bad here and there). And most importantly the kickass violentness is fuckin' amazing. I am surprised the studio didn't make Roth make major cuts to this. But, at the end of the film, i was sure not only had i seen one of the grossest films ever, and one of the most suspenseful horrors ever, but one of the most innovative mixture of genres in years. This film plays like a John Landis frat-boy comedy for the first part. It then somehow becomes Roman Polanski's Frantic, which turns into a Takashi Miike torture-fest. And resolves itself with one of the most stylish looking, action-revenge thriller sequences ever. Everyone... GO AND SEE THIS FILM!

they love you or they hate you but they will never let you be

Yesterday was a long, and mostly excellent day. I was gonna go and see Emily, but her plans changed, so we met at the Square, which is finished now. I walked around and did a bit of shopping for prezzies. I went over to Bay Swiss and chatted to Nicky who was fulfilling her managerial duties. And then i waited for Emily and watched people ride the escalators. So, Emily and Troy finally showed up and we went out into the new area where we were entertained by a british half-clown half-doctor half-60's Camden Town Actor. He did numerous lame and funny gags until building up to his big slight of hand peices, where he put balls into my ears and nose. Then i gave away half of the presents. I randomly bought Em Mirror Mirror by Some Author Guy McGuire. Em got me the new Strokes album last week, and i've only just had the opportunity to take it home. I like it. Listening to it now. Then we ate some lunch. We did the usual, stack up a plate of self serve chinese and share. We wandered over to JB Hifi and i was lucky enough to purchase me the Spike Jonze Collection DVD for only 15 dollars, which is ridiculously and amazingly cheap. Then we wandered some more and met up with a friend of Troy's. BUT THEN... i ran into Phil. Which the other present was for. It was A Flaming Lips DVD. Turns out he just purchased it as well. Which i pretty much shoulda known was gonna happen. So we went into JB and he exchanged it for music fantasticness. Then I had to leave my Emily who is ultra-fantastically uber-cool woot-central-alicious and go to school, which was long and tedious.

Good morning tv, you're looking so healthy

Phil's birthday was yesterday (SHOUT OUT). I attended his birthday, but had to leave early for sweaty, hungry, tired, waking up at 5 in the morning kinds of reasons. I went to visit Miss Alice Maree today, she's still pretty cool.. even if she thinks things that aren't really synonyms are. Oh, and on the train there and back i got to finish 1984. I hadn't read it since i was 12 or so. I could only really remember the basic plot and the rats. So, yeah, i re-read it, and it's far more amazing this time around. It bummed me out a little, but i think that's the sign of a great book. Next up is Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse 5. During my Alice visit, i got my Alien Boxset back, and in working order (hopefully). She also got a whole bunch of stuff back. We saw Brokeback Mountain. I like it, it's just not a two times kind of movie. I haven't seen Emily in a while now, since last tuesday actually.. it's the longest i've gone without seeing her since we started dating, i think. I don't enjoy not seeing her. Hopefully tuesday, though. Can't wait.

Okay, i'll catch you up. I've had school three nights this week. Peter Menzies Jr., the DOP is teaching my Pull Focus/Lighting Operations class. He's worked on some big stuff, and he knows a lot of shit, and he pushes us pretty hard, but above all that... he's pretty much an asshole. My other two classes are so far non-events, but once i get in those editing suites i'll be set. I've been lucky enough to see Emily the past few days, and yeah, way to busy to come online and keep in touch with anyone, also far to broke to keep in contact with anyone else. I do this every time school starts up again, i end up ignoring people, but i swear, i'm busy. Also, i'm so fucking tired. I don't have a lot of energy to do much at all lately, and i feel sick most of the day. It's the late nights that does it to me. I'm off to hang with the guys some more now (some people who i have ignored quite a bit lately). So, yeah, whoever wants a chat, drop me a line, or an email or something. I'll try and get back to y'all.

this is something that happens

Today i rode my bike to Emily's house in the sweltering heat (Tough). She wasn't there when i got there so i swam in her pool. Then she showed up from school and i spent some time with her and rode home (Not-So-Tough). Tomorrow night is the first night of school. Should be fun, or something. I have a major headache right now, i think i'm gonna get off the net and just crash in my way-too-warm-for-comfort bedroom. AND check out tonight's Arrested Development. I usually refuse to watch it on TV, because they show it so irregularly, i'd rather just wait for the season 2 DVD set and watch it in one hit, much like i did with season 1. Same goes for Curb Your Enthusiasm, by the time the season airs in Australia the DVD is already on the shelves. And they add commercial on channel 9. The show doesn't really work with commercials. It wasn't shot to suit that format, it's HBO, so they just cut it anyway. Amateurs. I'm just glad Teevee is available on DVD, or i wouldn't see those rare gems that are obviously there. Well, CYA'S!

the flag is burning as we speak

I was just over at yahoo looking at the oscar nominations, it was the first chance i got to check out all the catergories this year. As i look over, it makes me remember what a fucking brilliant year 2005/6 has for movies. 2004 was pretty great too. Munich, Brokeback Mountain, Crash and Goodnight and Goodluck. All going for Best Picture. Capote as well, though i didn't get a chance to see that yet. My allegiance lies with Speilberg no matter how much i loved those other films. But then you look at the other films, nominated for other reasons. Of the ones i saw, A History of Violence, Cinderella Man, The Constant Gardener, Batman Begins, Memoirs of a Geisha, Harry Potter 4, King Kong, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, War of the Worlds, Walk the Line, Wallace & Gromit, Corpse' Bride, Howl's Moving Castle, Murderball, Enron: Smartest Guys in the Room. They all ranged from pretty fucking good to totally fucking amazing films. And the ones in there i haven't seen, Capote, Hustle & Flow, North Country, Transamerica, Syriana, Match Point, The Squid and the Whale, The New World... well it's Terrance Malik and Woody Allen for one. Then it makes me think of all the films that i saw that weren't really oscar material but still pretty great films on their own this past year. Assualt on Precinct 13, Ong Bak, Old Boy, The Jacket, Melinda & Melinda, Sin City, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Mysterious Skin, Kingdom of Heaven, Layer Cake, Unleashed, Star Wars Episode III, Rock School, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, You Me & Everyone We Know, My Summer of Love, Rize, Land of the Dead, Undead, Dark Water, Wedding Crashers, Last Days, 2046, Four Brothers, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Red Eye, The Brothers Grimm, Thumbsucker, Everything is Illuminated, Serenity, Stay, Shopgirl, Domino, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Chicken Little, Wolf Creek. And that's just a few. It was very rare i went to the cinema and saw a film that i didn't want to see because there was nothing else on. On top of that, Little Fish, Oyster Farmer, Look Both Ways, The Proposition, Jewboy. It was a great year for australian films. I can't remember a year like this in my lifetime, where the quality to quantity ratio of films has been this promising.

Satan is my master, he has always been

Yesterday after walking to Macarthur Square with Phil and applying for a job at Greater Union, i hopped on a bus to Emily's and caught up with her and Troy. Silly Troy is making a short film for his HSC, and it sounds as though he has no idea what he's doing. So i've volunteered my time and expertise to his project. Then me and Em went out to see Walk The Line. I hope this isn't the only time i get to see her for the next week. I'm not good at missing people. I went to the Catholic after, but left 2 hours later out of boredom. This morning i felt like watching a DVD and sat through P.T Anderson's 3-hour opus Magnolia. I have nothing planned for tonight. Think i'll stay in.

Whats with these homies dissing my girl? Why do they gotta front?

Yesterday i saw Brokeback Mountain in the city in the morning. I went with Emily, it was the last time were gonna get to spend any real time together for sometime. I have school in the evening. She's got school in the day. She works weekends. I'll only get to see her weekend nights, and briefly on weeknights i have off i guess. Well, anyway, it was a great half-day. And i loved the film as much as i loved the book. The evening consisted of me going into the ol' campus and re-enroling for my new film class. The modules are pretty cool, each semester requires and individual production which is pretty kick ass. Oh, and now i study Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. 4 Day Weekend! Now i can get a job and work around school quite comfortably. This is all good.

I haven't updated in while. Busy week and all that. Hanging with the girlfriend. Meeting up with the ex girlfriend. Watching Batman Begins again. Trying to discover the meaning of Australia Day (still don't get it). AH! I'm tired. I just wanna get up and go see the man i love's new film, Munich, tomorrow with the girl i love.

Gen.com have stopped computing, They're out in force recruiting, Do you need a new thing?

I took my digital camera with me up to Nelson Bay so i could make a nice long post with photos included. But i was too busy having so much fun, i forgot to take any photos. Well, on Monday night at like 2am, my dad drove me all the way into the city (central station) and at about 3.45am i hopped on a train to Newcastle. Most of the way i read The R. Crumb Handbook and the rest of the way i looked out the window and saw new places. I arrived up in Newcastle (for the first time ever) at 6.50am. It's the first time i've ever been there, and had no idea it was that far. It's 200 km's north of Sydney. That's quite a bit. The town, like the actual centre of the town was dead, but i assumed it was just really early and no one was out yet. So at 7.10am i caught a bus from stand 3 to Nelson's Bay, which is also farther than i thought, it's 50 or so km's from Newcastle. So all up i traveled 300 km's from home in one night. I arrived at Nelson Bay at 9.00am which made a total of 7 hours of travel. This is what reminds me i need to get my license. If i drove i could have done it in 3 and a 1/2. Emily and Micheal (Stepdad) met me outside Bi-lo and we went off to her place. The rest of the weekend goes like this. Hanging out on the beach. Swimming in the bay. Biking across Port Stephens to far away beaches. Exploring on foot. Swimming more. Finding a kick ass beach called Zenith Beach which is enclosed by cliffs has the whitest sand and the coolest dune. Doing puzzles together on the couch. Playing scrabble with the little sister. Late night shenanigans. Early morning breakfast by the harbour. Excellently fun dolphin watch boat tour thing. Climb up an extremely high mountain summit and an amazing view. Quality time with the girl and all. It was really an amazing couple of days. I left yesterday afternoon and got back at midnight. On the way home i read more Crumb, spoke to Emily via telephone, got a call from Alice wanting to hang out (she actually genuinely wants to be my friend which is nice) and general being shitty at cityrail. When i got home, i had a quick shower, out with a nice meal waiting for me, a quick call to Emily to report my home safe status and also to find Dad had taped Supernatural for me. Man, those are some pretty cool two days right there. I really liked Supernatural. Great pilot episode. Today i went out to Narellan Town Centre with Gav, Nikki, and Sean to see Sean's latest love interests circus show. We stopped off at Homer's first where i ran into Chris from Wesley Mission (my old boss) and had a bite to eat. When we got to the NTC we missed Sarah's (the girl) part. But we did stay and participated in the circus workshop thing. We were about 15 years older than the target audience but that's okay. I wowed them all with my juggling scarves routine. We then left and went to the Square where i found Arrested Development: Season One for $28. I'm now at home. And bored out of my mind. I gotta find a job.

Got you on my radar

On the friday night of my birthday we all gathered around Sean and drank alcohol and watched Jackass. I got drunk. Don't do that often. Today i'm off to the beach with my sister's boyfriend's family. Shouldn't be too torturous, but i think i'll just go to the beach and read. Last night i was invited to join Emily and her family on holidays up in Nelson Bay for a few days so i leave tonight kind of, my train leaves at 3.45 in the am tomorrow morning/tonight, i will arrive in newcastle around 7 in the am and then i am to bus it up to Nelson Bay, this is the farthest i've traveled in some time. I can't wait, i love the trips almost more than the destinations. But, this destination holds Emily, so this time it's really no contest. I can't wait. More on this when i get back from this.

ps. Bernardo Bertolucci's The Dreamers is pure cinema.
